MASTERING THE ARTIST'S STATEMENT

We are pleased to announce the next instalment in our series of essential skills workshops: Mastering the Artist’s Statement with artist, Emilia Telese.  Using a range of writing techniques, exercises and mindmapping, Emilia will coach you in the art of writing an effective introduction to your work in 200 words.

Emilia Telese is an Italian-born crossover artist based in Brighton.  She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and moved to the UK in 1997. Alongside her art practice Emilia is Regional Council Member at Arts Council South East, a freelance writer and specialist in artists’ professional practice, and a visiting lecturer at more than ten art colleges in the UK and Italy.  http://www.emiliatelese.com

THE ROUND TOWER

It's not long now until Old Portsmouth's Round Tower is launched as a gallery space with an exhibition on the theme of ‘Strong Island’.
‘Strong Island’is a local website created and managed by Paul Gonella and Tristan Savage designed to promote, showcase and inform people about Portsmouth and Southsea’s scene.
Over 30 local creatives have been invited to participate in the exhibition and you can see who they are and follow the progress of preparing for opening night at www.theroundtower.co.uk.  Paul Gonella is also making a documentary of the preparations which will be made available to view on the website. The image shown is a recent photograph of the Round Tower by Jon Snape, using his Medium format Mamiya and hand printed in his kitchen darkroom. Jon is hoping to produce some solar plates especially for the strong-island exhibition.
The local printmaking studio, Badger Press, will also be participating in the exhibition and there is still time for their artists to submit work to be sold in the shop.  Full details can be found here.
