ARTIST VICTORIA WAREHAM 'LOOKS BACK' OVER SOUTHAMPTON

It's good to see that the Millais Gallery is continuing with its Off-Site projects while it remains "homeless".  They have now commissioned artist Victoria Wareham to create an exciting site-specific installation at the Bargate Mall in Southampton, opening this Saturday.  Victoria has worked alongside local musicians Brian Hooper and Jeff Henry, and using historical songs about Southampton has created a “phantom choir”.
In a collaboration with local composers, singers and the SoCo Community Music Project, this choir will perform a vocal quartet adaptation of “Looking Back” - a reminiscent look at a the city’s historical landmarks.
The essence of this performance will be captured in a series of audio and visual recordings. Visitors to the installation will trigger the recordings and awaken what seems to be a gathering of invisible musicians.
If you would like to know more about this project, Victoria Wareham will be discussing the installation on Saturday 26 February, or  check out the website: www.solent.ac.uk/millais
